were deprived of the extras which the Police have been deprived of.
The extras we were deprived of must at the present time be almost
compensating the Government for the additional salary we obtained..
At present men who have left the Police Force with less
than five years' service draw more pay in the Revenue, Land Court,
Post Office, and Public Works Departments, and receive more while
on leave and are entitled to better pensions in the event of being invalided at 10 years than Police Inspectors of 18 years' service.
We consider that our services rendered to the Pelics
are worthy of equal consideration at least to the departments
mentioned.
Public
Inspectors of the London Metropolitan Police retiring
on pension with 25 years' service are entitled to better pensions
than inspectors of the Hongkong Police with the some service.
To wish to draw your attention also to the fact that an
Inspector on the Sterling Salary retiring after 25 years' service
draws less pay at the time of his retirement and £20 per annum,
less on pension than one on the dollar system with the same service,
therefore the Government must admit that the last increase we ob-
-tained does not compensate us for the extras lost and cannot be
counted a rise of pay when men that refused to accept the changed
conditions are better off than we are at present.
We would also like to point dut that there are only two
punxium positions which Inspectors may aspire to I.E. Chief Inspect-
-or and Chief Detective Inspector, while it frequently happens at
Home that Inspectors are appointed to the rank of Superintendents of Chief Constables of boroughs and towns. Here there are no such openings for any men who might qualify for them and we therefore have no encouragement or opportunity to better ourselves once we
obtain our present ranks.
One other grievance of the service is the two classes in the rank of Inspectors with increments in both. We would respectful- -ly ask to have the increments in both classes abolished, and that on obtaining the rank of Inspector a man be granted the maximum pay of the grade on appointment and that the 2nd. class Inspectors be
